These are based on the movements the mouth makes while speaking the words (and just after the words are spoken). It illustrates the visual qualities of the English language but also the subliminal messages given by language. A similar idea is used in THE WASTE LAND series. The similarity between images and the movements of the mouth is explained by Sir Richard Paget in his book 'Human Speech' published in 1930.
